The decision to schedule the written tests for the 2025 Baccalaureate earlier was made to ensure that high school graduates do not have to take the exam during high temperatures, as Education Minister Ligia Deca has explained multiple times.
This decision has received criticism in the public sphere.In September, 37 teachers from the ‘Saint Sava’ National College urged Ligia Deca to change the exam calendar for the 2025 Baccalaureate, arguing that in its current form, the ‘ exam would be a fiasco.’.
‘The other classes will need to reorganize their schedules a bit’
In this context, Ligia Deca mentioned on Monday that schools designated as examination centers can adjust their activities starting June 10, when the written exams for the 2025 Baccalaureate begin, considering that students not in their final year complete their courses by June 20.
‘The feedback we received pointed to the need for reorganizing school activities.Final-year students finish earlier, so the other classes will need to reorganize their schedules where the school or high school is an examination center,’ Ligia Deca stated at Antena 1.
She added that such schedule reorganizations have been common practices in the past, noting that ‘the competency tests often overlapped with the last week of school, so this is not an unprecedented situation.’.
For the 2025 Baccalaureate, the competency tests will be held from January 27 to February 7, 2025, much earlier compared to recent years when they were scheduled for June.
Ligia Deca emphasized that students taking the 2025 Baccalaureate should not worry about the time left to cover the exam material.
‘The teaching of the curriculum ends much earlier for final-year classes to allow for time for review and consolidation.Therefore, I do not anticipate issues.Generally, problems do not arise with competency tests, as they are calibrated to ensure that if students have successfully completed school, they will pass these tests.There is even more time to focus on the written exams, which usually are the differentiating factor,’ Ligia Deca stated on Monday.
